Wondering how you can upload a custom image to your added email accounts in your sidebar? This feature is not yet available in Shift v8, but it's coming soon! Keep reading this article to learn how to workaround this missing feature and have an image show up in your sidebar.

For now, setting an image directly in your email settings will automatically display that image in your sidebar (thanks to Shift's API connection with Google and Microsoft)! Continue reading for further details on how it works and when you can expect the custom image upload functionality to appear in Shift v8. 📸

What image will appear in my sidebar for my emails?

By default, the image that displays for an email account in your sidebar will align with whatever is set within that email account as a profile picture (a direct API lets Shift pull this image). If you change your photo within your email settings, your email account image in your Shift sidebar will change also. If no image is set in your settings (or if you're unable to set one due to restricted permission), a letter will appear against a colored background. The letter that appears is usually the first letter of the email or the first letter of the name set in your email's settings. The color of the background that appears is automatic and cannot be changed, but you can change the border color (right-click to open settings).

Currently, there is no way to add a custom image to an email account in Shift v8.

When will I be able to upload a custom image?

Adding custom images to email accounts in the sidebar will be possible in a future v8 update, likely sometime in late 2022.
