Keep reading this article to learn how to fix multiple issues in Shift such as blank screens, unresponsiveness, crashing, and more. An app data reset (particularly a partial reset) can be performed at any time with minimal impact, often helping to resolve a wide range of issues. If the issue you're experiencing is not explicitly listed in this article, we recommend giving a partial and full app data reset a try anyways! ðŸ˜Ž

How to perform a partial app data reset

When you complete a partial app data reset, your added emails, apps, and extensions will remain intact. However, any opened web tabs will clear. A manual app data deletion almost always resolves unresponsiveness, crashing, and fully blank screens, among numerous other issues. Follow the step-by-step instructions below: 👇

  1. Ensure Shift is fully closed and not running in your task manager (you can press Ctrl Q to fully quit Shift)
  2. Press Ctrl Alt Delete on your keyboard and open your Task Manager
  3. Select Details in the top menu and start typing Shift on your keyboard (just start typing)!
  4. For any Shift.exe processes that are running, right-click and select End Task. Continue until there are no more Shift.exe processes in the list
  5. Open Windows File Explorer to view the Hidden Items. Please follow the steps as per your operating system:
    • Windows 10
      1. Open File Explorer from the taskbar.

      2. Select View Options > Change folder and search options.

      3. Select the View tab and, in Advanced settings, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives and OK.

    • Windows 11

        Select View Show Hidden items.

  6. Navigate to the following folder: C:Local Disk\Users\<your name>\AppData\Local (<your name> might be the name of your computer or similar)
  7. Click into the ShiftData folder then select UserData > Default
  8. Right-click on the "Sessions" folder and delete
  9. Re-launch Shift

In case a partial app data reset doesn't address your issue, a full app data reset might be what's needed. We always recommend exhausting all other troubleshooting methods before completing a full data reset, as a full data reset will require you to set up the majority of your Shift setup again. After a full data reset, you'll need to:
