Mailto links do not launch a new compose window or populate the recipient

Issue Summary 📄

When clicking on an email address or mailto link, and Shift is also set as your default email client, you may have noticed that after you select your email, a new compose window doesn't open, or if it does, the recipient's email is not populated automatically.


Status: Partial fix released on the Beta channel 

The latest Beta, version 7.2.9 includes a partial fix for this issue. All Mailto links will now open the selected email. Recipient information will be populated as expected when a Gmail account is selected, and also when most Outlook accounts are selected. Recipient info is not yet populated for Office 365 emails.

The Beta channel allows you to interact with newer features, extensions, and apps in Shift before we release them to our Stable channel. Beta is a bit more experimental than Stable, so it is expected that you may encounter other issues there.

You can always switch back to the Stable channel once the fix becomes available there. If you'd like access to the partial fix now, please follow the step-by-step instructions in this article. 

If you prefer not to move onto Beta, the fix will be available on our Stable in about 3-4 weeks or so.
