Have an issue with your desktop notifications not showing up or working in Shift? Our quick tips in this article are a sure way to get them working right for you. Start at the top and work your way down the list! 🤓

1. Check your system permissions

Make sure Shift has the appropriate permissions in your system preferences. Without them, Shift won't be able to display desktop notifications. You can check your system permissions by operating system, below:

2. Check your Shift notification settings

Within Shift, make sure that your email accounts and apps have the correct permission set so that notifications are allowed. Here's how:

  1. Click into any email account or app in your sidebar and then click on the lock icon that's on the left-hand side of the search bar at the top of Shift
  2. Find Notifications in the drop-down and set it to Allow
  3. If Notifications don't appear as an option in the initial drop-down, click on Site Settings, then scroll to find Notifications and toggle it to Allow

3. Check your individual email and app notification settings

Shift will honor your individual email and app notification settings. If notifications are disabled in your email settings, for instance, Shift you won't get desktop notifications or sounds for new messages. We've outlined how to check your Google and Microsoft email settings below!

How to check your Gmail notification settings

  1. Click into your Gmail then click on settings (gear icon) towards the upper right corner
  2. Click See all settings at the top
