Audio playback issues in Shift

Issue Summary 📄

There are currently a few streaming services that have a playback issue when using them in Shift. Known affected services include:

  • Spotify Podcasts (music audio is working)
  • Castbox (podcasts and music are not working)
  • PocketCasts/Google Podcasts (podcasts are not working)
  • Gmail playing audio files from attachments

Status: Fixed. Available on Alpha, version 6.0.56 🚀

There is a fix available for this issue on our Alpha channel. Below are steps for how to subscribe to the Alpha channel to access the fix now:


  1. Go to Options (lower left) > Settings > General > Support and Updates > Click Alpha on the right-hand side and accept any notices
  2. After a minute or two, a prompt will show with a new version of Shift asking you to update. Accept

The Alpha channel is more experimental in nature than our Beta and Stable channels but is still heavily tested and a safe environment to work in. If you prefer not to subscribe to Alpha, this fix will be available in our Beta and then Stable channel in a few weeks time.
