How do I import passwords from 1Password to Shift? print icon

Conveniently transfer your passwords stored in 1Password to Shift in order to have all of your glorious logins accessible right inside of Shift. Logging into an application or an email account? Shift's Password Manager has got you covered. By seamlessly auto-filling your login information all you have to do is click a button. We'll do the heavy lifting for you.  

Credit card and address logins are not currently available in Shift.

Step 1: Ensure that Import to Chrome is Enabled

In order to import your passwords from 1Password, you must first import them into Chrome, as Shift only supports importing from browsers. Please follow these steps to ensure that import mode is enabled in Chrome:

 

  1. To access the Chrome flags menu, please type the following text into your browser search bar: chrome://flags and hit enter
  2. In the search bar type “Password import”
  3. From the drop-down menu select “Enabled” to allow password importing from Chrome
  4. Relaunch Chrome 
  5. Click on Settings ⋮ and choose Passwords underneath the Autofill menu 
  6. Click on Passwords and click on the three vertical dots beside “Saved Passwords”
  7. Select Import 

Step 2: Export your Data from 1Password to Chrome 

  1. Open and unlock 1Password.
  2. Select the items you want to export. Select multiple items by holding down the Ctrl key when clicking on them. Select all of the items by pressing Ctrl + A after clicking one of the items on the list.
  3. Right-click the selected item(s) and choose Export.
  4. Choose the format comma-separated value (CSV)
  5. Enter a filename and click Save.

Step 3: Import from Chrome to Shift 

Passwords can be imported into Shift using two methods. Both processes will have the same result!

Method 1: Import from your app menu

  1. Click on your app menu at the top of your Shift window
    If this menu is not exposed please click Ctrl + \ to reveal it.
  2. Select History to reveal a drop-down menu
  3. Click on Import 
  4. Ensure you are importing from Chrome and check the box for Passwords and/or History 
    Clicking the checkbox entitled “Backup & Sync Passwords” will store a copy of your encrypted passwords in our vault service. 
  5. Click Import and enter the password you use to log in to your computer. 

Method 2: Import from Shift Settings

  1. Open your Options menu by clicking the three dots in the bottom left-hand corner
  2. Click on Settings (wrench icon) 
  3. Navigate to Passwords
  4. Select Settings 
  5. Click on Import from Browser 
  6. Ensure you are importing from Chrome and check the box for Passwords and/or History 
    Clicking the checkbox entitled “Backup & Sync Passwords” will store a copy of your encrypted passwords in our vault service. 
  7. Click Import and enter the password you use to log in to your computer. 


Congratulations! Your passwords have been successfully imported into Shift 🎉

After you have imported your passwords to Shift you can delete the unencrypted CSV file from your desktop.
