Adding Accounts to Shift

Shift is made to keep all your accounts in one beautiful place.

Here, we will show you the ropes on how to set up all your accounts in Shift.

Email accounts

This feature is available for all users. Basic users are limited to 2 email accounts. Pro and Advanced users can have unlimited email accounts.

Shift was built with the idea that most of our days center around email as the main form of communication.

Switching between email accounts in a browser often forces you to log out or provide a password again. In Shift, you can switch easily between your email inboxes, calendars, and drives in one click.

Adding your email accounts

Gmail, G-suite, Outlook.com, Office 365 can all be supported as email accounts in Shift.

You can find your email accounts in the top of sidebar in the right-hand side of Shift.

To add a new email account, click on the blue circle "+" icon below your email account icons.

Type in your email, password, and accept the permissions in Shift.

Your account icon will appear and you will be able to access your new email account in Shift!

Account Icons and Pictures

1. Go to Settings

2. Go to the Accounts tab

3. Scroll to the email account that you want to change the icon image for. Select "Change Photo".

4. Select the image you want as your account icon from your computer and Save.

5. Your account image will update in the account settings and in the Shift sidebar.

Unsupported email types

We understand that everyone uses different types of email.

Right now, Shift only supports Gmail and Outlook.com accounts as emails.

Shift can support other kinds of email as a web application.

The following email providers are supported in Shift as an application:

  • Yahoo Mail
  • Apple Mail
  • Front

If you have another type of email that you use, you can try adding it as a custom application in Shift:

Note: Your email type must be web based if you are adding it as a custom application.

1. Go to the Apps Menu
2. Search for the Jira app and click on the + button to add it to your apps menu
3. Click on the "Use Custom URL" checkbox
4. Add the URL for your custom app. Be sure to include the entire URL

5. Name your app and choose a color, then SAVE

Your app will appear in your sidebar with the Jira logo and the color and naming of your choice.

Given that Shift favors integrations done by our own team, this workaround is not perfect and may not have all the functionality as running your app outside of Shift.

IMAP Accounts

MS Exchange accounts cannot be supported in Shift unless they are accessed via OWA.

Calendars

This feature is available for all users. Basic users are limited to 2 calendars.

After adding your email accounts, you will notice a calendar tab in the top right-hand corner.

You must first add your email account before you can see your calendar in Shift since the two are linked.

For every email account you add to Shift, you also add its calendar.

Click on the Calendar icon to see the calendar for that account.

To switch to another calendar, select an email account in the left-hand sidebar, then select the calendar icon in that account.

Drives

This feature is available for all users. Basic users are limited to 2 drives.

After adding your email accounts, you will notice a drive tab in the top right-hand corner.

Same as your calendars, you must first add your email account before you can see your drives in Shift since the two are linked.

For every email account you add to Shift, you also add its drive.

Click on the Drive icon to see the calendar for that account.

To switch to another drive, select an email account in the left-hand sidebar, then select the drive icon in that account.

Google Services

This feature is available for Pro and Advanced users.

Same as your calendars and drives, you must first add your email account before you can see your Google Services in Shift since the two are linked.

To add a Google Service, click on the grid icon in the top right-hand corner of Shift.

A menu will drop down with all the available Google Services in Shift. Select the one you want to use. Switch easily by selecting the services menu again and choosing a different service.

1. Go to Settings

2.  Go to the Extensions tab

3. Find the extension that you want to add to Shift and toggle it ON. We are using Boomerang as an example here.

4. Go back to one of your email accounts and notice there is an overlay. Sign in if the extension prompts you to. Make sure you log into the extension for all of your email accounts.

5. Go to the extensions icon in the top right-hand corner and find your extension. Click on it to make sure you have signed in successfully.

6. You will see your extension's icon show up in the top corner of Shift.

7. Do not add your extensions as add-ons (pictured below). You can use add-ons in Shift, but they will not work like an extension does.

Whew, that was a lot of accounts! No wonder you're using Shift 😉
