Here at Shift HQ, we take privacy and security very seriously. Knowing that Shift requires a lot of permissions to run smoothly on your desktop, we put privacy and security at the forefront of our priorities.
Shift asks for permissions in order to ensure a high level of functionality. These permissions let Shift perform certain actions so that Shift does not need to request your permission every time you want to look at your emails, download files from your drive, view your contacts, and more. These permissions make Shift easier to use and keep your information safe.
Here you can find information about the specific permissions that Shift asks for and why they are required.
Does Shift store any personal private information?
In order to correctly identify our users, we only store your email, the type of email account it is (ie. Gmail, G-suite, Outlook, Office 365, etc.) and the name that you have associated with that account.
This reason this information is stored so we are able to identify our users and provide a certain level of service.
Shift stores the ID token that includes the name and email address of the user. This allows us to identify the user but gives no access to your accounts.
Otherwise, all other information including but not limited to payment information, email content, and application content is not stored on our servers.
Mail Calendar and Profile
Shift asks to view your email messages and settings. We ask for this permission to verify your email address and create your account on our servers.
We also ask to view your profile to fetch your account name and image. This is needed to distinguish different accounts in the application. For example, most of our users manage at least one work-related Gmail/GSuite/Outlook/Office 365 account, and one personal account.
Shift requests to view your mail and calendar to fetch your most recent emails and calendar items. This is needed to present notifications and display a count of unread messages. This is a core function of Shift, as notification management is a pain point for many of our customers.
Send Emails (Gmail/GSuite Only)
Shift also asks to send email on your behalf to share Shift with people you choose, at your request only.
Please note that this scope is only used if you decide to share your unique referral link with your personal contacts from right inside the Shift user interface. If you decide not to use our referral program to share Shift with friends, this scope does not apply to you in any way.
Google Drive and OneDrive
Shift also requests to see and download all your Google Drive and OneDrive files.
Shift needs this permission to find Google Drive and OneDrive files that match your inputs when you use Shift’s cross-account search feature.
Contacts (Gmail/GSuite Only)
Shift also requests to see and download your contacts.
This is needed to populate suggested contacts if you decide to share your unique referral link with your personal contacts from our referral page within in Shift. If you decide not to use our referral program to share Shift with friends, this permission does not apply to you in any way.
